The Foundation Overview
The Foundation is a two week beginner course created to give you as a setter all the sales and communication training you need.
There is training material starting with basic knowledge, introducing the sales cycle, teaching and developing para verbal and nonverbal techniques and skill sets, goal setting, mindset development, and much much more that you will have learned through this course.
Each day has a task assigned to it which you will be required to complete before you can move to the next day. Some tasks involve a quiz while others will require you to record a video of yourself essentially passing off a topic of the pitch and submitting to your sales leader for them to pass or fail and ask you to retry. They will give feedback as to what you will need to correct in order to pass.
At the end of this course, you will gain access to the Vault or lockers which is where the live video examples of sales representatives on the doors in action will be located.
We’re excited for you to start the 14 day Foundation course and for you to develop high level communication skill sets that you will take with you forever. Let's get started.
Why Solar
Out of all the products one could choose to sell, why should it be solar? The Oracle of Omaha- Warren Buffett said the following: “Energy deregulation will be the largest transfer of wealth in history.” If one of the wealthiest men in the world is talking about energy deregulation creating more wealth than anything else, it’s safe to say this is the right industry to be in and it’s certainly the right timing.
Our country is in desperate need of an alternate energy solution. Electric utility rates have increased an average of 8% over the past year nationwide, and in many of the markets we focus on for solar there are power companies that increase 14 % or even 20% in a year. It’s not a matter of “if” rates will go up, they most certainly will–in fact, rates haven’t gone down once since 1970. We help homeowners purchase solar which will cap the amount they will pay for electricity for the future, guaranteeing no rate increases in the years to come, and an actual end date to paying for their power.
Solar is one of the very rare instances where it’s a true win/win for all parties involved. In most cases when selling a product or service, the salesperson is adding an expense to the homeowners budget in return for the value received by that product or service. With solar, it’s much easier because we are swapping out the current expense the homeowner is paying to their power company with a cheaper one that is fixed and adds value to their home.
In addition to the major benefits received by the homeowner, we are able to make thousands of dollars per deal which is especially rare in the fact that we are saving the homeowner money rather than adding an additional expense, while making a ton of money in the process.
The electrical grid is another beneficiary of solar, in the sense that it helps alleviate some of the strain in producing power while helping to store and protect homeowners in blackouts if they have backup battery storage with their system.
Finally, we are making a huge positive impact on the environment by offsetting the carbon footprint and providing clean green power for our planet.
By selling solar we help homeowners, the sales reps financial growth, the stability of the grid, as well as the planet. Get excited, because there’s no other industry where you can truly achieve financial freedom while benefiting every single party involved in each transaction.
Mindset
Stay Positive
When faced with rejection, discouragement, or negativity, it's natural to feel weighed down by them. However, you have the power to choose positivity and rise above these obstacles. Remember, life is challenging, but it's through these struggles that we develop the strength and resilience to become our best selves. By filling your mind with uplifting thoughts and visualizing success, you can manifest positive outcomes in your life. Embrace the power of positivity and allow it to transform you. Don't forget that books can be an excellent tool for developing a positive mindset. Let your determination and optimism guide you towards a bright and fulfilling future.
Mindset training.
Feed the focus, starve the distractions.
Mindset is everything. In a world packed full of spontaneity, our minds are one of the few objects we can have full control over. However, possessing that ability isn’t inherent, it’s learned.
Our minds are designed, in nature, to do two things…recycle the past, and worry about the future. “I should have done this, or, if I only would have done that.” As equally damaging, “what if that thing in the future goes wrong? What happens if I can’t do X?”
When we recycle the past, it limits our present. That’s not to say that we can’t have good memories, not at all. But dwelling on the woulda, shoulda, coulda’s never proves to strengthen the current mind. This mindset is the primary cause for depression.
Similarly, living in the future, wondering what will happen if all goes to hell. Focusing on what could or might go wrong. This mindset is the primary cause of anxiety.
Yes, our minds are naturally designed to play these tricks on us. Luckily, the antidote is simple. It’s a 3 step process.
Recognize your mind making the jump, either forward or backward. Breathe. Take as many slow, deep breaths as needed to find yourself in that moment, back to the present. Lastly, find gratitude. As you’re breathing, be pensive of anything and everything you’re grateful for in your life. Even if it’s as small as recognizing a sunny day.
Mindset as it applies to our industry.
Regardless if you’re selling in the summer, a blitz, or year round, creating the right mindset is crucial to your success.
David Goggins, ex Navy Seal, current multi ultra athlete, is all around incredibly dialed in his approach to life. He talks often about how he goes about accomplishing the most difficult feats imaginable. Regardless if it’s a 100 mile marathon in the harshest of environments, or a business venture he’s trying fulfill, he lives by three fundamental principles.
Feed the focus Starve the distractions Create mental aid stations
He compares life in business, family, school, or anything else people are trying to succeed in to a race. Talks about how in a marathon, it’s 100% necessary to have aid stations planted throughout the course you’re racing. Those aid stations can contain a change of socks, food, rain gear etc. Having these stations, of course, are necessary for survival but also serve a greater purpose. It allows the runner to stay fully focused on the task at hand. Understanding that in a few short miles, relief is waiting. This mindset allows one to fully buy in to each individual stint of the race, to go as hard as humanly possible. No distractions on “when can I rest, or eat or drink?” It’s already baked into the course, planned.
Relate this to our industry. How do we “feed our focus” and “starve our distractions?” We all have goals. We know what those are. We all have distractions, it’s part of life. The idea is to identify the right time and the right place to allow those distractions to enter our minds, and then plan for it.
Ex…I have a goal of 5 units sold in a day. In order to achieve that, I’ll need to work 8 hrs.
Possible distractions…
- Social Media
- Call from girlfriend
- texting friends/family etc…
Are the above mentioned bad? Certainly not. But timing is crucial. I know I have to work 8 hrs to achieve my goal. If during those 8 hrs, I do any of the above mentioned, the result will be that I most likely will fall short of my goal.
So, instead of randomly taking 20 minutes to sit on a curb to return a call, text, or scroll sm, one should allot time and plan for those activities, to make use of a “mental aid station.” If your start time is 11am, maybe that MAS is 20 minutes before, and then again while taking a break for lunch. Point is, if its planned, it won’t distract from the time when you’re in it, feeding your true focus.
One of the certainties of doing something difficult is that here will most definitely be hard times. Being proactive in prepping your mind to endure, creates endless advantages over being reactive to obstacles and distractions that are inevitable.
Again, mindset is everything and if desired, completely under our own control.
Work Ethic
Remember, hard work is the foundation of success. Let me tell you a quick story of when I learned this for myself during my first year of door to door. I had heard of this guy named Russ that had been in the top 10 reps for years and years. But there was something different about Russ. He wasn’t that good of an actual salesman. I had to see what the hype was about so I set up to watch him on the doors. I did not last more than two hours with Russ. I couldn’t stand how akward he was with customers. He really was a horrible salesman. I asked him how in the world he was one of the elite in the entire company and his answer was exactly what I expected. “I outwork everyone, Marc. it is my superpower.” It doesn't matter how skilled you are as a salesman, without dedication and effort, it will be impossible to achieve your goals. In fact, the most successful reps are typically the ones who work the hardest, not the most talented. The famous quote is “hard work beats talent when talent isn’t working hard.”
Don't be disheartened by bad days or weeks. In fact, expect that they will happen. This is door to door sales. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and good things will happen. Here are some foundational principles to being a hard worker. Determination, effort, growth oriented, dedicated, humble, goal setter, and someone that just doesn’t quit. One my favorite sayings in door to door is “just one more door.” I always had a goal in my office to be known as the hardest worker. I knew that if I did that, good things would happen.
We don’t have control of a lot of things in life and in door to door but we do have every bit of control of the effort we put into this job. One of the things we love the most about it is that it can and will be one of the best things you have ever done for you life if you work your freaking butt off. Do not let a single day go by where you don’t lay in your bed with absolutely nothing left. This, repeated over time, will maximize your summer and set the tone for the rest of your life.
